An open letter to the moms who are ALWAYS at every event

Dear Person,

I don’t know what your situation is. I don’t know if you are a stay at home mom, if you just have a lot of time to take off or if your job is just SUPER flexible. I don’t know if you instead work extra hours, or if you work from home, but thank you for doing what you do.

As a mother who sometimes just CAN’T be there, I appreciate the moms who can.

I once had a mother take a video of my daughter opening presents with Santa at her preschool Christmas party because I couldn’t get there RIGHT when it started and I missed that part. I actually cried in secret I was so happy she did that. She has NO idea how much that meant. I don’t want to miss those moments, I don’t ENJOY that, but I have accepted it as a reality of me working full time. But when one of those ever-present moms makes that small gesture they just have no idea how moving that is.

Thank you for being crafty and creative, for helping with the parties and driving kids to the field trips. I have to pick and choose what I am going to participate in, and sometimes even when I want to I just cant.

A good example of that was just this past Tuesday. My husband was supposed to go to my son’s very first ever field trip which was to the Pumpkin Patch. Well he came down with some nasty bug and could not go. I wanted to go so bad but I had to be on a conference call, and I could NOT get out of it. I sat there on the conference call pouting, and then I got a notification on my phone that someone had tagged me in a picture on Facebook. When I took a look at that picture it made me smile. My heart hurt that I wasn’t there, but I appreciated all of the people who took the photos that I wanted so badly but would not be able to take myself.

So thank you, all of you, for being there and making your kind gestures! You have no idea how much you are appreciated!
